WE ARE EXPANDING MEATLESS MONDAY COLUMBIA TO BENEDICT COLLEGE

Students enjoy free plant-based burgers, sausages, cheeses and ice cream bars on August 16!

We are adding yet another enthusiastic partner to foster its mission of empowering eating habits that positively impact our health, environment and community by launching Meatless Monday Columbia at Benedict College! Sue Doran, Let’s Meat Less’s Founder and Registered Dietitian, has joined forces with Benedict College to launch Meatless Monday Columbia at their historic campus with a spectacular tailgate celebration for Benedict’s students scheduled for Monday, August 16. Also contributing to this healthy initiative are Perkins Management Services, Benedict’s food service management company, and Forward Food, which is providing the former with custom plant-based soul food recipes and on-site culinary training.

Benedict College will be the first Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in the nation to make the commitment to transitioning at least 5% of their current menu entrées annually to plant-based through the end of 2024. Doran said of the effort that “this demonstrates that Benedict College cares about the health of their students, faculty, guests and the environment, and we are thrilled to partner with all involved because we want to unite our community around this common good.”

From 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on August 16, the Benedict community will enjoy giveaways by Let’s Meat Less, as well as complimentary plant-based entrées, sides and desserts — including Impossible burgers, Tofurky sausages, Daiya cheeses and ice cream bars, and more delicious options from local food trucks. In addition, Benedict’s Marching Tiger Band of Distinction will deliver an outstanding performance in celebration of the launch and the long-term partnerships between Let’s Meat Less, Meatless Monday, Benedict College, Perkins Management Services and Forward Food. Part of the event will also be televised on WIS, virtual and VHF digital channel 10, between 12 and 1 p.m.
