Every Monday Shall Be Meatless Monday In Columbia
Let’s Meat Less is launching Meatless Monday in Columbia on April 12, 2021, with support from the City of Columbia and Impossible Foods.
Meatless Monday is kicking off in Columbia this Monday, April 12, 2021. This international movement we are bringing to our community has been officially endorsed by the City of Columbia with a proclamation effective on Meatless Monday's launch date. Impossible Foods has also donated 5000 Impossible Burgers to Harvest Hope Food Bank on behalf of Let's Meat Less to support the local nonprofit in getting Meatless Monday started in Columbia on April 12.
"We are happy to give Meatless Monday our full endorsement in Columbia," said Mayor Stephen Benjamin. “We all want to be healthier, and now we can further healthy lifestyles and add to our City’s economic well-being through supporting our local restaurants by visiting them on Meatless Monday, and ordering options from their plant-based selections. Our intention is to unite everyone who eats and drinks in Columbia around this common good."
Meatless Monday is an international health initiative encouraging people around the world to go meatless one day a week for their health and the health of the planet. As Columbia's Meatless Monday official ambassador and in partnerships with the City of Columbia, Impossible Foods, and local restaurants and businesses, we will help our city earn a place among leading communities worldwide that are working together to make our world a better place for current and future generations.
On April 12, 2021, cook a plant-based meal at home, opt for plant meat at your favorite local restaurant, and explore all the creative non-food ways to meat less—from beers to arts & crafts! Afterwards, tag #MeatlessMondayColumbiaSC to share how you're participating. The public is also invited for an Instagram/Facebook Live session with Impossible Foods' Chef J. Michael Melton, to be hosted at 3pm by @letsmeatless.
